Let’s face it, you spend a great
deal of your time at work and truthfully you want your surroundings to be as
pleasant as possible. Okay, so you hate your job and you find it more and
more difficult to get through the day because you are really dissatisfied with
the things you have to contend with…including job stress, obnoxious co-workers,
a difficult boss, and a whole lot of other unbearable things. Do you realize
that there are some things you can do yourself to improve your job satisfaction?
Check out these seven strategies for boosting your job satisfaction.
Rule 1
Maintain a positive attitude
You should come to work with a
positive attitude and continue to display this demeanor throughout the duration
of the day. Try not to focus on the negative aspects of your job, but
focus on getting your work done in an efficient and timely manner.
After all, that’s what you are paid to do.
Rule 2
Demonstrate pleasant social
interaction
You should interact with your
manager and co-workers progressively and try to get to know them better.
Look for the good in everyone and focus on that. Respect everyone and try
to be courteous and respectful even when you don’t really feel up to it. If you
maintain a pleasant disposition it could eventually rub off on those who are
not quite so pleasant. You should also learn to accept the unique
differences in all individuals.
Rule 3
Accept accountability for your
actions
When you fail to measure up to your
manager’s expectations you should put forth a greater effort to accomplish
those goals and objectives in the near future. Don’t try to blame the
company, your manager, or your co-workers for your failures. When you opt
to blame others for your failures you will never overcome your weaknesses and
thus hinder your ability to become a star employee. This in itself can
cause you to dislike your job. Also, if you should ever offend your
co-worker(s) in any way, you should acknowledge your shortcomings and
gracefully apologize as to avoid tension and dissection; but instead seek to
encourage good camaraderie alternatively.
Rule 4
Avoid office politics
When you are constantly around
individuals who love to spread nasty rumors about their co-workers and who
enjoy causing divisions and conflict in the workplace it will eventually get
you down. Clearly, these individuals exhibit adolescent mentality and
could be a bad influence on you. Inevitably, you will have to work
with these individuals; just don’t get involved with their foolishness nor
should you encourage such!
Rule 5
Don’t bring outside issues to work
One mistake that many people make is
that like to bring private matters from home to share with others in the
workplace. Unfortunately, those individuals they thought they could
confide in have repeatedly failed to respect their confidentiality now everyone
knows their business. Disloyal co-workers can create havoc in the
workplace and cause someone to dislike coming to work. My advice …you
should really leave your personal business outside the workplace.
Rule 6
Take breaks, PTO’s, and vacation
time
Make sure you take your breaks and
lunches regularly. When you fail to take your breaks and lunches you will
eventually become stressed out mentally. You really need to get away from
you work to relax your mind and body. You will feel refreshed after you
return. Don’t forget to put in for PTO time when you need to and be sure
to take a vacation at least once a year.
Rule 7
Reorganize your work area
And finally, keep in mind that your
work area can make huge difference in the way you feel about your job.
When your work area is disorganized and full of clutter you can become less
enthusiastic about your job. You should take the time to reorganize your
work station so that you can become more productive.
In conclusion, if you want to boost
your overall job satisfaction stop waiting for everyone and everything around
you to change, but instead… you change those things within your power to do so.
Additional Tips:
*If you find that you are very
unhappy in your current job no matter what you try to do, perhaps it’s time to
